Sheila C. Murphy is a digital media scholar. She trained in visual studies at the University of Rochester (B.A.) and the University of California, Irvine (M.A., Ph.D.). She has been actively writing about computer culture, identity and the spaces and modes of engaging with media and technology since 1995. She approaches the everyday circumstances we use media in and on, how users play with technology and how technologies mediate life through a rigorous combination of methods, including visual analysis, history, and theories of culture, which she puts into contact with actual technologies, objects, and experiences.
