  • About

After a circuitous journey around North America and through several academic disciplines, Josh has happily landed in Screen Arts and Cultures for his Ph.D. He has conducted masters level research on feminist inquiries into music and activism and the problematics of the mass media's reaction to queer youth suicide. His teaching interests include queer media studies, pop culture, and all things generally fabulous. Beyond various teaching assistant positions in gender studies and media studies, he has developed his own courses on music video culture and queers in the media.

His dissertation research examines issues of queer labour and cultural capital, exploring how marginalized subjects produce and consume media in unique and resistive ways. From apocalypses to utopias, manifestos to the Spice Girls, and bears to queen who kill, his research asks how queer folk take stereotypes and images used against them and turn them into fabulous, fantastical, and ultimately liberating culture. He's gonna WERK!
