Lorena Medina Luna named Ergonomics Hero
Lorena Medina Luna was named an "Ergonomics Hero" for her effort to improve the working conditions for her fellow grad students.
Details of her nomination:
On behalf of the LSA Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, we are nominating Lorena Medina Luna for an Ergonomics Hero award. Lorena is a 4th year PhD candidate in Geophysics. She has shown tremendous initiative and follow through in improving the working conditions for a number of our employees.
In October 2012, Lorena worked with OSEH on an ergonomic assessment and recommendations for improving her own workspace. Based on her positive experience, in October 2013 she took the lead on requesting an ergonomics grant to defray the cost of replacing ~20 chairs and stools used by graduate student employees in various labs in the department. Her justification was compelling and due to her efforts, the Department received a $2,600 ergonomics grant and $1,500 from LSA to help defray the $10,000 cost of the new seating. Lorena shepherded the project from start to finish for the benefit of her colleagues’ health and comfort.
