Ewiger Wald is a large-scale attempt to recast the history of the German people, according to the “Blood and Soil” Nazi ideology, as the history of the German forest. Combining archival/documentary footage with staged scenes, the film renders its version of history from the Bronze Age to the present. In the end, following Germany’s defeat by its enemies in the Great War, the German forest is cleared out, a swastika emerging in its place.
