Ted Brader is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan and Research Associate Professor in the Center for Political Studies at the Institute for Social Research. His research focuses on the role of emotions in politics, political partisanship, media effects on public opinion, and other topics in political psychology. He has conducted numerous surveys and experiments on politics across seven countries. His book, Campaigning for Hearts and Minds (Chicago 2006), uses experiments to investigate the effects that emotional appeals in televised political advertising have on voter decision-making and shows how emotional appeal overrides logical appeal more often than not in these advertisements. Professor Brader also currently serves as Associate Principal Investigator for the American National Election Studies and Associate Principal Investigator for Time-sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences.
