  • Description:

This lecture derives from the prize-winning book Perlove wrote with Larry Silver, Rembrandt's Faith: Church and Temple in the Dutch Golden Age (Penn State Press). The presentation explores Rembrandt's search to create an "authentic" interior space within the Second Temple, and demonstrates how he used such sources as the Mishnah Middot, the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus, as well as the Bible, to create mysterious spaces filled with spiritual meaning.
