Dan Shere is a working screenwriter who has developed and written feature length scripts for many Hollywood studios and production companies. Shere learned screenwriting as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan under Jim Burnstein and went on to sell the screenplay he wrote for Burnstein’s class to United Artists in 1999. Since then, Shere has gone on to write original scripts and write on commission for studios such as 20 Dreamworks, Sony, Blue Sky Animation, GK Films and Prana Studios.
Shere lived in Los Angeles for seven after graduating from the UM. It was there that he got his“foot in the door” in Hollywood. Then, following Jim Burnstein’s lead, Shere moved back to Michigan in 2004 to teach “Introduction to Screenwriting” at the university and continue his work as a screenwriter. Shere has guided many students through their first screenplays and has seen former students go on to find their own professional screenwriting success.
In 2008, Shere began working for Blue Sky Animation on a screenplay for the movie “Epic” which opened nationwide on May 24, 2013. Shere is currently working on adapting a youngadult novel into another animated feature. He loves bringing his real-life experience as a screenwriter into the classroom to share with his students.
