Workshop format: In this interactive seminar, Florian will work with students individually to create their own story using their photos as a backdrop. Each student should bring a photo to the workshop. Using his own photos, Florian will explain how he approaches a story, and uses photography concepts and techniques to create images that illustrate stories that motivate people to feel different emotions, think critically about the subject, and even modify their behavior. Then Florian will work with each student to create their own story using their own photo they bring to the workshop. By the end of the seminar, each student will use their own photo to tell a story, much like Florian does with his work. Sneak Preview: Anyone interested in Florian's work is encouraged to attend Florian's public presentation about his work in the Arctic.
Who should attend this workshop: Any student who wants to effectively communicate the need for environmental behavior change, including those interested in environmental policy, education, behavior change, communication/marketing, journalism, conservation ecology/biology, business, or community outreach. Interest in photography is preferred, but no experience or equipment is required.
From this workshop, students will:
1. Learn how to approach an issue, and how to communicate to a targeted audience.
2. Learn different aspects of developing conservation photography projects
3. Practice presenting an environmental issue of their choosing (e.g. reducing energy consumption)
4. Practice explaining environmental issues with the aims to elicit behavior change
5. Learn what role the arts play in environmental issues and movements

Take the opportunity to participate in this 2 hour seminar where Florian Schulz shares his experience of creating powerful projects such as the “Freedom to Roam – Wildlife Corridor Project”, which is now being developed into one of WWFs major conservation campaigns. Florian will combine informational segments and stories from the field that give insight into photographic challenges of working in remote locations.
