  • About

Lara taught English and Creative Writing for ten years before joining the Newnan Advising Center. She was a lecturer in English at U-M, Oakland University, Henry Ford Community College, and The Ohio State University. She also served as the Student Services Associate in the U-M Department of Comparative Literature, advising undergraduate and graduate students. As Writer-in-Residence for InsideOut, a Detroit Literary Arts Project, Lara explored art, music, and poetry with at-risk Detroit Public School students.

Lara’s goal as an advisor is to help students take ownership of their education by following their strengths and talents. As a writer of Lebanese descent and a first-generation college graduate, Lara is committed to bridging cultural understanding in her work and writing. Her published essays and poetry reflect her heritage and deep appreciation for collecting family history. In her free time, Lara enjoys gardening, biking, and thinking about little houses made of ticky-tacky.
