The Boy Governor: Stevens T. Mason, Governor of Michigan at the Age of Nineteen

Stevens T. Mason (yes, as in our very own Mason Hall) received an appointment from President Jackson at 19, was acting governor before he could vote for himself, and was elected governor at 24 – a record which will never be broken. He flared like a comet across the skies of early Michigan, and was dead already at 31. The Mason decade, 1830-1840,  was one filled with achievement for someone who was nicknamed “The Boy Governor.”

Come hear more of this fascinating story, full of Michigan and UM history, from local writer Don Faber, author of The Boy Governor: Stevens T. Mason and the Birth of Michigan Politics.
