  • About

My primary research interests are in Soviet Jewish religious and cultural life. My dissertation uses mourning and burial practices to examine the engagement of Soviet Jews with Jewish religious traditions, Soviet norms, and Russian cultural influences. I am particularly interested in the informal theologies of death and dying that emerged in the contested space between Jewish and Soviet identities, between secularism and the search for spiritual meaning.
