    Peter is the LSAIT Advocate for the Departments of Anthropology, Afroamerican and African Studies, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Museum of Anthropology, and the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. His background is in oceanography, geology, and information sciences. He specializes in Information Technology for field science education and research, including ruggedized and mobile computing, field instrument integration and networking, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and collaboration systems. He manages the LSA IT GIS Consulting team, and teaches a number of GIS workshop throughout the year covering a wide variety of introductory through advanced topics. Additionally, he works with the rest of the LSAIT Advocacy and Research Support team to assist researchers with: IT-related content for funding opportunities; the design and acquisition of IT hardware, software, and service solutions; understanding and managing the storage, backup, and security of research data; custom IT design and development in support of research activities; and, integrating research equipment with local or campus-wide IT infrastructure.
