Keynote Speaker
Tariq Ali is an activist, political commentator, filmmaker, playwright, and novelist. A long-time editor of the London journal, New Left Review, he is the author of numerous works of historical and political analysis, including Street Fighting Years: An Autobiography of the Sixties (Verso, 2005); The Clash of Fundamentalisms: Crusades, Jihads, and Modernity (Verso, 2002); and Pirates of the Caribbean: Axis of Hope (Verso, 2006). He is also the author of The Islam Quintet, a critically-acclaimed series of historical novels, from Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree (1992) to Night of the Golden Butterfly (2010).
