Join Janie Paul’s Art Workshops in Prisons class for a viewing of Passport to the Future and a post-film discussion with Soros Fellows Benay Rubenstein and Mary Heinen and other returning citizens.
Benay Rubenstein is currently a Soros Justice Fellow working on a campaign to reform the State University of New York’s admissions policies that impose significant barriers to higher education for people with criminal records. She produced The Last Graduation, a film that describes the dismantling of college programs in US prisons; founded the College Initiative, a reentry education program for formerly incarcerated people; and served as academic coordinator for College Bound Programs at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in NY from 1983 to 1996.
