    Jessica is a third year graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Program in Greek and Roman History (IPGRH), a joint program between the History and Classical Studies Departments.   Her interests include the political and military history of the mid to late Roman Republic,  and ancient slavery from the mid 3rd century BCE to the 4th century CE.  In particular, Jessica will focus her dissertation on the social memory of defeat in the Roman world (from the middle republic through the "fall" of the empire) and is working on a project examining the role of various emotions in the writings of Greek and Roman Historians.
