  • About

Aday Robaina studies the formation and evolution of massive galaxies over cosmic time. In particular, he is interested in the role that galaxy mergers play in a) shaping the massive end of the mass function of galaxies, and b) how do these galaxy interactions influence the star formation activity in those systems, either by enhancing or quenching it. He also has studied potential mechanisms for quasar-triggering and AGN/SF-feedback related issues. Most of his work is based on data from Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer and ground-based facilities around the world. Currently he is collaborating with scientists on four continents and over 10 countries in the CANDELS survey, the largest observational project ever carried with HST for the study of galaxies observed when the Universe was just a fraction of its current age (redshifts from 1 to 6).
