WISE Dissertation Writing Group Participant and Leader Applications Due Sept. 16, 2011

WISE will again be co-sponsoring small dissertation writing groups with the Sweetland Writing Center next semester.

We are looking for writing group participants, as well as two group leaders, who will receive training and a $600 stipend. Please see the requirements below.

--Dissertation Writing Group Member Requirements: Deadline Friday, September 16, 2011
• Must have advanced to candidacy
• Must be in the process of writing your dissertation with at least one chapter completed
• Must be in the sciences, mathematics or engineering fields
• Must have clear goals for the dissertation for the semester
• Must submit to jsaville@umich.edu Graduate Student Writing Group *Participant* Application Form (attached)

Responsibilities include:
• Communicating with group leaders and members to plan meeting dates/times/locations that work with members' schedules
• Meet with group a minimum of 9 times/semester 90 minutes per session (first meeting will be introductions, explanation of process and logistics)
• Present your writing at least twice during the semester
• Read required work prior to meeting
• Must be in the sciences, mathematics or engineering fields
• Groups will include 4 members plus the leader

• Must have a nomination from your department chair or advisor—The nomination need just be an email to Jamie Saville, jsaville@umich.edu, with one remark on your ability to facilitate group discussion.

Responsibilities include:
• Attending 2 hour Group Leader training in the Sweetland Writing Center Library and reading an article in preparation of this workshop
• Communicating with group members to plan meeting dates/times/locations that work with members' schedules
• Meet with group a minimum of 9 times/semester 90 minutes per session (first meeting will be introductions, explanation of process and logistics
• Facilitate positive/productive discussion
• Meet with Sweetland Faculty mentor 3 times/semester 1 hour per session.
• Schedule who presents work on which dates
• Communicate regularly with group including meeting date/time/location/presenter reminders
• Determine and enforce group policy (discussed at training)
• Groups will include 4 members plus the leader
