Chris Bass serves as director for both the Michigan Research Community and the Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program. Chris earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in American Culture from the University of Michigan and has taught many classes at the University. Before coming to the MRC and WISE RP in October 2003, she worked as an academic advisor in LSA and as an assistant director at the Center for the History of Medicine at U of M. Prior to coming to the U of M, she was a registered nurse for many years. Her interests outside of working with students include reading, watching movies, walking, collecting antiques and hanging out with her English Springer Spaniel, Emma.

Beth has served as the Associate Director for the Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program since the summer of 2006. She earned her B. A. in English and Secondary Education from Indiana University and her M. A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan. Prior to working for the WISE RP, Beth worked as a Hall Director in Couzens Residence Hall and Alice Lloyd Residence Hall at the University of Michigan. Responsible for most of the day-to-day operations of the WISE RP, Beth greatly enjoys directly working with and assisting the truly amazing students in the program.

Karen is currently a University of Michigan graduate student finishing her M.A. in Higher and Postsecondary Education. She had the pleasure of working with the WISE RP last year, and she is ecstatic to return for another year. Karen will be working closely with the Program Board and the Recruitment Team. She is also involved with several other projects throughout the school year. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know all the WISE RP students, so never hesitate to stop by her office. Her door is always open!

Valerie Munson is the Administrative Assistant for the Michigan Research Community and the Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program. She has worked at the University of Michigan for over 27 years. Some of the departments Valerie’s had the privilege to work for are: The Program for Educational Opportunity, Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives, and Stockwell Residence Hall Office Coordinator. Valerie is currently taking classes to complete her bachelor’s degree at Eastern Michigan University in Communications. Her passion is working with the students. Val feels most fulfilled when she witnesses students coming to the university scared and uncertain of what they want to do in life and sees them leave as confident leaders with a better idea of what life could hold for them. Life is what you make it. Make it--don’t let it make you.
