WS Undergraduate groups
The F-Word
While not officially connected to the Women’s Studies Department, many students in the Women’s Studies concentration and minors are members of the F-Word, a feminist activist organization that aims to reclaim feminism as a tool to empower young women.
The group focuses on reproductive rights, economic and political advancement,
and Women’s issues internationally.
The F-Word has hosted a women’s art show and open mic poetry nights,
brought in speakers from the National Organization for Women, organized a “feminist
activism fair” with representatives from campus and local feminist groups,
and held discussions and forums on various topics such as violence against
women and sexual identities and lesbianism in Asian cultures. For more information

The Women’s Studies Undergraduate Group
The Women’s Studies Undergraduate Group is currently organizing. This is a group for Women’s Studies majors and minors and our goals are to bring together students and faculty as well as create a safe space for students to discuss what happens in their classrooms and on campus relating to their field of study. Women’s Studies Graduate Association
The WSGA is the official graduate student group for students in the joint
doctoral programs or certificate programs of Women’s
Studies. The Association provides an intellectual community in which to develop
professional interests; addresses departmental and university concerns affecting
students; puts on events; and fosters collegial peer relations.

Who is a member of the Association? All students in the graduate
programs of University of Michigan’s Department of Women’s Studies are automatically
members.
Do I have to attend activities? Activities, while not required, are designed to benefit you.
How can I get more involved? Attend a meeting! There you can sign up to plan upcoming activities.
Past activities have included:
- Bringing speakers to campus
- Providing feedback on practice job talks
- Providing feedback on conference presentations
- Workshopping dissertation chapters, prospectuses, research papers
