Monique Bourdage is broadly interested in feminist media and technology studies. Her main research interests include the intersections of gender with music performance and technologies, domestic cultures and technologies, and audience reception. She is particularly interested in media from or representing the United States during the late nineteenth through mid-twentieth centuries. Her dissertation examines the intersecting discourses of media, technology, and masculinity proffered by Playboy in its first two decades. Monique holds a Master of Social Sciences from the University of Colorado Denver, where she completed her thesis on the electric guitar and the social construction of gender. As a result of this research, she founded and continues to co-direct Girls Rock Denver, a nonprofit rock 'n' roll day camp seeking to empower girls ages 8-18 through music education, creation, and performance. She is a University of Michigan Rackham Merit Fellow.
