Scott De Orio is a doctoral candidate in History and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan. His research interests are in the history of sexuality in the twentieth-century United States with a particular focus on the law and state power. Titled “The Revolution of Homosexual Regulation,” his dissertation posits the rise of a new style of state punishment of and control over gay sex in the 1970s and 80s.
