• About

  Sara McClelland is Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies and Psychology at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on the links between sexual health, psychological research methods, and issues of social justice. She has examined sex education in schools, public policies concerning sex ed, reproductive rights for minors, and issues concerning the development of sexual identities, behaviors, expectations in young adults. Current research questions concern the impact of limited sexual rights and stigma when individuals are asked to appraise the quality of their sexual lives, particularly for youth, women, and sexual minorities. In a current study, she examines how women with metastatic breast cancer experience and evaluate their intimate lives and sexual health -- with a guiding interest in how feminist theories can inform standardized measurement in psychological research. Her work has appeared in a variety disciplinary publications, including: Harvard Educational Review, Emory Law Journal, and Social Justice Research and the Handbook of Health Psychology.
