Cristina Moreiras-Menor is Associate Professor of Peninsular (Spanish) Studies and Women's Studies. She received her Ph.D. from University of California (Davis). Her research focuses on modern and contemporary Spain (including peripheral national communities such as Galicia, Catalonia and the Basque Country). She examines modern and contemporary issues from the theoretical perspectives of psychoanalytical, political and feminist thought. She teaches classes on Spanish and Latin American women writers, Spanish Film, 19th century-to contemporary peninsular literature, as well as classes on feminism and feminist thought. She is the author of Cultura herida: Literatura y cine en la España democrática (Madrid, 2002) and the editor of a monographic issue of the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies titled "Critical Interventions on Violence". She has published numerous articles on Spanish women writers, violence, film, transculturation, etc. She is working on a book on Galicia and issues related to nationalism, language, women's history and writing and canonicity.
