ASIANLAN 175 or by assignment of ASIANLAN 176 by Placement Test.

Primary Instructor:

This course is a continuation for students who have taken First Year Vietnamese, (ASIANLAN 175) or have some background in Vietnamese. Students will learn Vietnamese well enough to carry out routine tasks and engage in simple conversations, as well as to read and write short paragraphs and letters. They will also learn about some aspects of Vietnamese life and culture. The language skills include listening, speaking, reading and writing and the medium of instruction will be Vietnamese with minimum use of English. Students will discuss their ideas in pairs or small groups and create simple individual presentation in Vietnamese.

By the end of the semester, students will be able to: understand and communicate in simple Vietnamese; to carry out routine tasks; engage in simple conversation about a variety of topics; to communicate while traveling in Vietnam; read and write short paragraphs, notes, and letters; have familiarity with basic elements of Vietnamese culture; write assignments (blog) and create simple topic-based projects in Vietnamese, such as a travel guide book, present and share simple ideas and topics.

Course Requirements:

Evaluation will be based on quizzes and tests, daily preparation, participation, attendance, a weekly writing assignment, presentations, blog, a midterm exam, and a final project.
