This course is designed to emphasize Filipino literature, and every lesson will include discussions about certain elements of Filipino culture and introductions to literature. Each lesson will have six components: reading a literary text, understanding words and expressions, evaluating comprehension, expanding cultural awareness, learning grammar patterns, and reiterating exercises which may be oral or written. Group presentations will be utilized to make the class more fun and interesting.

By the end of the course, students will be able to use Filipino in effectively defining and explaining their thoughts; describing a person, place, or feelings (paglalarawan); narrating a story (paglalahad); and arguing using a wider range of vocabulary. In reading, students will understand the gist of texts and be able to retell stories in their own words. In writing, students will practice writing letters and notes, short stories and narrating events. A cultural presentation and showcase of talents will be part of final requirements. Students will have oral proficiencies equivalent to Intermediate mid/intermediate high of the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview.

Course Requirements:

This class requires attendance, class participation, homework, journals, and quizzes. The final individual project, midterm and final written and oral assessments will also be key components of grading.
