Description

The rudiments of classical Chinese are taught through interesting stories behind some Chinese idioms still in circulation in Chinese society. It is a gateway to advanced literary reading and writing in Chinese. Students are introduced to basic grammatical knowledge of Classical Chinese and made aware of the elements of Classical Chinese still current in Modern Chinese.

By completion of this course, the students will acquire some basic grammatical knowledge and vocabulary in Classical Chinese and gain a deeper understanding and better mastery of advanced formal and literary style of Chinese.

Course Requirements:

Attendance, homework, quizzes and tests, final exam, class participation

Intended Audience:

Both non-heritage or heritage students are eligible to take this course. Native Chinese speakers who only finished elementary school or less in Chinese-speaking regions can also take this course.
