This class explores the fascinating shift in Black history from slavery to freedom in the 1800s. Through the reading of memoirs, novels, and other books, we will explain Black experience under enslavement, the Civil War, emancipation, and the civil rights struggles of the late 19th century.
Intended Audience:
Primary: DAAS Majors and Minors with an interest in the subject of race, gender, and sexuality.
Class Format:
The classes will consist of brief background lectures, films and discussions.
My online class will include both synchronous and asynchronous elements, but I will generally expect students to “attend” my class at its currently scheduled time.
