This course introduces students to the history of activism in the United States after WW II and it particularly emphasizes on the social and political movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Students will be asked to analyze the origins, strengths, weaknesses, and impact of various movements and the important connections between them. Among these will be the LGBTQ movement, the Black Freedom Struggle, the Welfare Rights Movement, the Prisoner Rights Movement, the Chicano/a Rights Movement, the Asian- American Rights Movement, the Women’s Movement, and many more. Students will draw from books, memoirs and primary documents, as well as will view numerous documentaries so that they not only have a good handle on what motivated various social and political movements and what their impact might have been, but also how those movements shine important light on politics today. Course meets fully online synchronously. This course meets the Upper Level Writing Requirement.
