Description

The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of how narratives are created and the ways we can use them to learn how ideas of power, race, ethnicity, gender or class are formed, challenged or dismantled in the Hispanic world. With that in mind, the course provides an introduction to the creativity of the Spanish speaking world through the study of literature and films. In class, we will work with a selection of short stories and novels, comics and graphic novels, films, plays and poetry. By studying this group of texts, students will learn key concepts that enable them to succeed in future literature courses in Spanish.

This course counts as a literature course for the Spanish minor.

Class Format:

For Fall 2021: Fridays will always be an “online day” while Wednesdays will always be "in-person". Mondays will, for the most part, alternate between online and in-person.
