Enforced Prerequisites:

ITALIAN 101 (completed with a minimum grade of C- or better). College or university transfer students with any prior study of Italian must take the Placement Test. Only the placement score and not language coursework completed at a previous school will determine placement.

Advisory Prerequisites:

ITALIAN 102 is NOT open to students who have begun instruction at the high school level. College or university transfer students who have received credit for one term must take the placement test to determine the appropriate course for their needs.

Repeatability:

May not be repeated for credit.

Description

Italian 102 continues the presentation of the essentials of the Italian language and attempts to broaden the students’ knowledge of Italian life and culture. It is task-and content-based and incorporates grammar in a functional use of language through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Language use is encouraged through a variety of communicative activities, and video-responses. Readings and cultural notes introduce students to contemporary Italian life and culture. Their cultural awareness and listening skills are further developed through audio-visual materials such as films, and also includes authentic readings in Italian (short articles from newspapers and magazines).

Grading is based on regular attendance, class participation, regular and timely completion of homework assignments, tests, a final speaking test, and a final written examination.

Class Format:

For Winter 2022: This class will meet in-person Mondays & Thursdays, and remotely on Tuesdays & Fridays. Remote class meetings will be held synchronously with the times listed for the class. Students are expected to be available during all scheduled class times.
