Description

This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to nanofabrication and nanomanufacturing technologies in the context of both fundamental engineering research and practical implementation. We will start our discussion from the state-of-the-art micro/nanofabrication technologies widely used in the current semiconductor (or electronic device) manufacturing industry and nanofab/device research labs. Afterwards, we will proceed to the emerging nanofabrication approaches based on new top-down and bottom-up principles as well as the critical issues associated with the upscaling of such technologies for ultimately realizing nanomanufacturing. We will also talk about the critical physical/chemical mechanisms involved in various nanofabrication approaches as well as important device applications (e.g., nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, MEMS, energy, nanofluidic biosensors, post-CMOS semiconductor technologies, and emerging neuromorphic computing systems etc.).
