In Scand Civ, students become acquainted with the society and culture of the modern states of Scandinavia: Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. There will be special lectures and readings on post-World War II Scandinavia, with a focus on issues where these countries have made important contributions to the world. Among the topics to be covered are: history, politics, economics, education, social welfare, sustainability, art and architecture, music, film, literature, drama and migration.
Course Requirements:
Attendance and active participation, weekly responses, group presentations, two papers and presentations, and a final exam.

SCAND 331 will have several guest speakers from Scandinavia invited on Zoom. All students are expected to attend these synchronous lectures and interact with the speaker.
