Description

Part of the Prison Creative Arts Project curriculum, this course teaches students about restorative justice, reconciliation, and atonement. We explore questions of why and how artistic activity can begin and/or support processes of reconciliation for crime victims and people who have committed crimes. Students in this class facilitate weekly arts workshops in adult prisons. The workshops produce original performances, creative writing, music, and visual art presented at the end of the semester by both the student facilitators and the members of the workshop. Ultimately this course seeks to identify the best strategies for using the arts to address the carceral system and those most affected by it.
