Description

"My body, my choice" is a political slogan that seeks to define what it means to have personal control over one's body in a world where doctors, politicians, and corporations all have a vested interested reproductive health. In this course, we investigate this idea by looking at the history of medicine, histories of the body, and the history of sexuality from the 19th century to the present day. We will examine how the professionalization of medicine and public health has changed people's relationship to their bodies, sexuality, reproductive health, and childbirth.
