Deutsch 102: Stunde 2

Deutsch 102: Stunde 2

Outline plan:

  • Wie geht’s” overhead
  • Aktivität 1
  • Aktivität 2 – Note the vocab for this!
  • Aktivität 3 & 4
    • Play Anlauftext, “Barbara muss ein Konto eröffnen,” eBook pp. 246-7.
    • Time permitting, discuss some follow-up questions after Akt 4:
      • Was müssen Sie diese Woche erledigen?
      • Wo haben Sie ein Konto? Wann haben Sie es eröffnet? War das ein cooler, “erwachsener” [=grown-up] Moment?
  • Aktivität P7-14 from MindTap systematically with the class as a whole.
  • Discuss the sentence “Ich gehe zum Bahnhof”:
    • Does it describe motion or location?
      • Motion!
    • Then why is “Bahnhof” Dative [zum = zu dem = Dative]? Didn’t we learn that motion ==> Accusative?
      • Because “zu” is a Dative preposition, not a two-way preposition ==> it is always followed by the Dative, and the motion/location distinction is irrelevant!
      • Note that, unlike all the two-way prepositions, “zu” cannot (normally) describe location ==> this is why it is not one of them!
  • Review conversational past.
    • Overhead: “Irregular Verbs You Should Know By Test 5” (from 101) [or this version of the same list]
    • Possible prompts:
      • Gestern war der schlechteste Tag in Ihrem Leben. Was ist passiert?
      • Hypothesize about what your instructor did yesterday [“Sie/Er/They hat/ist vielleicht…”]
      • Was haben Sie gestern (nicht) gemacht?
      • Sie haben Deutschland besucht – aber Sie hatten kein Geld… Was haben Sie (nicht) gemacht?
      • Was hat _____ [pick a celebrity] gestern gemacht? Was nicht?
