My research interests center on Christian-Muslim relations in the medieval and early modern periods, both in Latin-speaking Christendom and throughout the Mediterranean world. Previously, I have completed research projects that focused on Western Christian portrayals of Muslims through literary works such as polemics and travel narratives. At the University of Michigan, I anticipate taking an intellectual approach to this topic by considering the ways that Europeans understood, misunderstood, and created an identity for Muslims and the religion of Islam. I am also intrigued by socio-cultural aspects of Christian-Muslim relations and the nature of “lived” interactions and relationships.
