Holiday Conservatory Display
Avant Garden – Weaving Fashion & Nature Together
November 26, 2016–January 8, 2017
Matthaei Botanical Gardens
1800 N. Dixboro Rd.
Ann Arbor, MI 48105

Where did you get that dress? Avant Garden explores the role of plants as the source of raw materials for textiles and the inspiration for fashion’s designs, colors, and shapes. But we wanted to take the idea of plant-based fabrics one step further and create clothing made from plant material such as living ferns and succulents as well as moss, bark, and evergreen boughs. The result is our holiday collection of living dresses (and one men’s jacket) on display in the conservatory. We’re also highlighting plants from our amazing conservatory collection and their historical and cultural roles as they relate to cultivation, sustainability, textiles, colors, and design. Free!

Don’t miss these other holiday events and programs at Matthaei:
