Please Note: The scholarship index is purely a listing of the named scholarship funds that the LSA Scholarship Office uses in determining awards for students.  Students do NOT apply for these awards individually.  The undergraduate admissions application is used in reviewing incoming freshman for scholarship eligibility.  There is not a separate LSA scholarship application.  Scholarships for current students include the LSA Global Experience Scholarship, LSA Internship Scholarship, LSA Emergency Scholarship, and the LSA Current Student Scholarship.  Application instructions for these scholarships can be found at the links above.

This section lists the scholarships administered by the College of LSA. Included are the criteria that established the scholarship and biographical information on the donor or donors if available. Prospective students are considered for all scholarships unless otherwise indicated. The application for admission is sufficient for award consideration, no further application is required. Awards are renewable for up to four consecutive years provided the recipients maintain full-time enrollment in the College of LSA and meet all academic and scholarship requirements outlined in the Scholarship Response Form. Current students require a separate on-line application found in the LSA Current Student Scholarship Program (check back the beginning of January for application details). This program provides scholarships that are not renewable to qualified LSA sophomores, juniors and seniors who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

The LSA Scholarship Committee holistically reviews the Undergraduate Admissions Applications of admitted students to determine at a minimum: academic talent and motivation, personal achievement, extracurricular activities, state and/or national awards, community service, leadership qualities, and academic potential. Essays and counselor and teacher recommendations are also significant factors in the review process. Other consideration may include students who are the first generation to attend college, come from a single-parent home, or have overcome adversity (and financial need when relevant). There is no formula to follow to be considered for a scholarship. These are examples of some qualities that the Scholarship Committee is looking for in the admissions application and should not be considered a checklist for award eligibility.

Satisfying the initial criteria listed on this web site does not guarantee that a student will be the recipient of an award. In many instances, a very limited number of students are able to be named as scholarship recipients for a particular award. Eligibility for out-of-state awards is contingent upon the student maintaining out-of-state residency status as defined by the University's Residency Office.

of Judy Kessler Wilpon, Mickie Kessler Kivel, and Bonnie Kessler Dropkin. Their father, Dr.

Although he did not speak a word of English when he arrived in the U.S. he earned his
undergraduate degree from Northwestern University at age 19 and then earned a degree in
dentistry.

While studying to be a dentist, Morris Kessler met Irene Nass, who was planning to become an

Field and moved to the small town of Sebewaing, Michigan, where they started a family and
Kessler began his practice. When the U.S. entered WWII, Kessler joined the Army Air Force.

The family moved to Urbana, Illinois, until the war ended. They returned to Michigan where the
Kessler girls all eventually graduated from LSA. "Education has always been very important to my family," said Judy Wilpon.
