    Solarium Symposium

  • Description:

Given the dramatic recent upheavals in publishing—from the swift rise of electronic readers to the ever more sales-driven approach of the big New York houses—it’s imperative that writers understand what those changes mean for authors, editors, and others in their industry.

The Helen Zell Writers’ Program also wants to give our students, as well as students in other writing-heavy disciplines, the information and guidance required to best position themselves for writing careers outside academia.

The Solarium Symposium on the Business of Writing is intended to be a forum for the ongoing conversation about the publishing opportunities afforded by new technologies. Rather than resisting change, we aim to wrestle with the possibilities offered by new literature delivery methods, and to nurture creativity, both artistic and entrepreneurial, in the myriad forms in which it appears in the book world’s ecosystem.
