  • Description:

The speaker this month will be John Speth, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology U-M. His talk will question many of the common elements of conventional descriptions of Early Paleoindians (Clovis-Folsom) life ways and adaptations. Specifically, he re-examines the presumed scales of residential mobility, the role of high quality lithics in these movements, the function of fluted points, and the motivations that underlay big game hunting by the first Americans. The picture that emerges from this critique is very different from the conventional view presented by most archaeologists today.
