Author's Forum Presents: YaliniDream, V.V. Ganeshananthan, and Sumathy Sivamohan
The Author’s Forum welcomes Sri Lankan/diasporic writers, performance artists, and activists YaliniDream and Sumathy Sivamohan.
In narrow political contexts where power seems unyielding, Sumathy and YaliniDream's work carves space for pluralism and solidarity. Their films, poetry, theater, and dance are a powerful call for an end to bigotry and violence. This event will feature performance and video, as well as conversation with fiction writer and journalist V.V. Ganeshananthan, Zell Visiting Professor of Creative Writing.
Sivamohan Sumathy holds a doctorate from the Washington State University. A senior lecturer in English at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, she has published and presented on postcolonial literature and theory, women’s movements in Sri Lanka, and performing arts. YaliniDream is one of the South Asian diaspora’s most prominent performance poets, and has toured nationally at hundreds of spaces throughout the U.S. as well as Europe & South Asia. V.V. (Sugi) Ganeshananthan is a fiction writer and journalist whose debut novel, Love Marriage was named one of Washington Post Book World’s Best of 2008 and long-listed for the Orange Prize. Her work has appeared in Granta, Columbia Journalism Review, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Sepia Mutiny, and Himal Southasian, among others. She is currently the Zell Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Michigan. http://www.vasugi.com.
