    I grew up in Forsyth County, North Carolina and received my undergraduate education at UNC, where I worked with Professors Theda Perdue and Malinda Maynor Lowery. My research interests include higher education in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century U.S. South, the racial categorization of American Indians, and the early industrialization of the southern Piedmont.
