  • Host Department: Program in the Environment
  • Date: 04/19/2013
  • Time: 09:10AM - 12:00 PM

  • Location: North Quad, Space 2435

  • Description:

What is the future of news? What’s the direction of this industry? And what will the future bring to coverage of environmental issues, when even The New York Times, in the course of this semester, dismantled its environmental beat and its environmental blog?

During this Pitchfest event, students of Environ 320 Environmental and Public Health Journalism will address these concerns and pitch their ideas for new ways to gather and share information related to the environment or public health to their fellow classmates and local journalism professionals.  All are welcome to this Pitchfest and join in celebrating the end of the semester through these discussions.  Guests are welcome (and encouraged) to give feedback and ask questions of the student presenters.

**You're invited to join the discussion! Please visit the class blog to learn more about this Pitchfest, and review or comment on students' ideas.

    Further Information:

This semester's event grew out of Environ 320's first Pitchfest, when  John Bracken, director of the Knight News Challenge, a $150 million grant competition fostering innovation in journalism, visited the Environmental Journalism class in December 2012 to give feedback to students, after they pitched their ideas for new ways to gather or share information related to the environment or public health.  The Knight News Challenge  is famous as one of the key funders of cutting-edge ideas in the news business.
