Sanctuary of Men Askaenos

Water was an important element at sanctuaries for several reasons: for quenching visitors’ thirst during the summer heat, and for the ritual purposes of cleansing and purification. These ritual actions were necessary to complete before entering the presence of the deity. This basin may have collected rainwater falling from the roof of the structure nearby.
